Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez is delighted that captain Steven Gerrard can return to his team after being found not guilty of affray.

Gerrard, 29, missed the Reds' Far East pre-season tour to attend court and will now meet up again with the squad on their return to Europe next week.

Skipper Gerrard was involved in a fight at a Merseyside bar last December.Gerrard had admitted punching 34-year-old Marcus McGee in the Lounge Inn in Southport but had denied a charge of affray.

A jury at Liverpool Crown Court took just over an hour to reach their verdict and agreed with the midfielder's claim that he was acting in self-defence in the incident. The England international had been out with friends on December 29 celebrating Liverpool's 5-1 win over Newcastle United.
