Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson says he will not make any further signings during the summer.
United have brought in Michael Owen, Antonio Valencia and Bordeaux's Gabriel Obertan to replace departed forwards Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez.
Ferguson revealed he had bid for Karim Benzema, who joined Real Madrid, but insisted he had no further targets.
"It is the end of our business," he said. "Stories about who we are supposed to be getting - forget it."
United pocketed £80m from Ronaldo's world record transfer to Real Madrid and the Old Trafford club had been expected to spend a sizeable proportion of the funds on new players.
Among those to be linked with a move to the Premier League champions are Brazilian forward Douglas Costa, French playmaker Franck Ribery, and Spain striker David Villa.
But Ferguson feels the market is now over-inflated and he does not want to pay over the odds for players.
Former Wales, Arsenal and Celtic striker John Hartson has testicular cancer which has spread to his brain, it has been confirmed.
The 34-year-old player, who was capped by his country 51 times and retired last year, was diagnosed on Sunday at hospital in his home city of Swansea.
Hartson was capped 51 times for Wales and played for five years for Celtic.
Hartson's other former clubs included West Ham, Wimbledon, Coventry City, West Brom, Norwich and Luton Town.
The hospital said he would start a course of radiotherapy and chemotherapy which would last "for many months".
Dr Gianfilippo Bertelli, consultant medical oncologist for Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University NHS Trust, said: "Mr Hartson attended Singleton Hospital on Friday displaying symptoms consistent with testicular cancer.
"A number of clinical tests were put in place and these have confirmed the presence of testicular cancer. Unfortunately, it has also been confirmed that this cancer has spread to Mr Hartson's brain.
Tottenham are attempting to hijack Everton's £5m bid for Sheffield United defender Kyle Naughton.
Everton hoped Naughton, 21, would undergo a medical and sign over the weekend but it is understood Spurs are now serious rivals for his signature.
Aston Villa are also monitoring the situation, with boss Martin O'Neill an admirer of the England Under-21 star.
Everton remain hopeful, while BBC Sport understands Spurs are set to hold talks with Blades' defender Kyle Walker.
The highly rated Naughton was outstanding in Sheffield United's run to the Championship play-off final last season, where the Blades lost to Burnley.
The full-back has been at Bramall Lane since the age of eight, coming through the same youth system as Everton defender Phil Jagielka.
Bolton are reported to be lining up a swoop for Jonathan Greening despite the fact Gary Megson denied his interest last week.Megson completed his second signing of the summer over the weekend when he wrapped up a season-long loan deal for West Brom defender Paul Robinson and now it has been claimed the Trotters boss is lining up another swoop on the Hawthorns. Greening could be available for £3million and Megson may now do a u-turn and make an offer as he looks to draft in the playmaker he craves this summer.A deal to sign Ferrie Bodde from Swansea looks to be in the balance as Wanderers struggle to agree a fee for the Dutchman and Megson could turn to Greeening as an alternative.
A football fans group is calling on the FA to act in a much more club friendly way when it comes to distributing Cup Final tickets. Both Evertonand Chelsea were left fuming with their paltry allocation of tickets for last season's show piece occasion and they are not alone in suffering at the hands of the FA. And now a fans group called the 'Respect Campaign' has called on fans to back them in an effort to a fairer deal.
