Danny Gabbidon is looking forward to the new season after scoring in West Ham's final game of the Asia Trophy against Beijing Guoan.
The Wales international defender is fully fit again following a lengthy 18-month injury lay-off and, after scoring in the 2-0 win against the Hammers' Chinese opponents on Friday, he is glad to be back on home soil. Gabbidon will feature in West Ham's final friendly against Italian Serie A side Napoli at Upton Park on Saturday and is then looking ahead to the return of Premier League action at Wolves on August 15.He told the club's official website: "It was hectic in Austria and China and there wasn't a lot of time to do anything but train and play - but you won't hear us complaining."It is nice for us to get back to see our families though and start thinking about the new season."
Manchester United have handed a trial to 15-year-old Swedish starlet Linus Sjoberg.
The midfielder is currently plays for Vasteras in his home country but is very highly rated and has attracted attention from a whole host of top European clubs. The Premier League champions are reportedly leading the race to sign him and the youngster will try to earn a move to Old Trafford later this month when on a week-long trial.
Lyon's Ghana international John Mensah has admitted that he would like to play in the Premier League after being linked to West Ham.The 26-year-old defender is set to depart the French Ligue 1 outfit this summer and reports in France claim the Hammers and Sunderland would be interested in taking him to England. And Mensah insists he would relish the opportunity to play in the Premier League, but will give his all to Lyon if nothing materialises. Mensah told Sky Sports: "It is great to be linked to Premier League clubs."My past season with Lyon was not good and I hated to be injured. But I am fit now and raring to go, either at Lyon or the Premier League."He added: "I am aware of the interest, but nothing is agreed yet, it was always an ambition to play in the Premier League, so let's wait and see."
Mick McCarthy has revealed that he will not be making a bid to take Hungary international right-back Zoltan Szelesi to Wolves. The 27-year-old, who left Strasbourg at the end of last season, was available on a free transfer and secured a trial spell at Molineux with a view to earning a permanent contract. However, after playing in Wednesday's 1-0 win at Crewe, McCarthy has decided not to offer Szelesi a deal. Meanwhile McCarthy will hand Ronald Zubar, Richard Stearman and trialist Bobo Balde a run out in defence for Wolves in Tuesday's trip to Scunthorpe and Wednesday's game at Wrexham after the trio missed Saturday's 1-1 draw at Doncaster. The Molineux chief has told all of his squad players that they could still force their way into his starting XI for the Premier League opener against West Ham on Saturday week.He said: "I said to the players they're not fighting against me to play in the game - they're fighting against themselves."
