Man United go down to Burnley

Boss Sir Alex Ferguson admitted Man Utd turned in a "bad performance" at Burnley after Michael Carrick squandered a penalty.

The Clarets celebrated their first-ever home game in the Premier League - with a 1-0 win thanks to veteran Robbie Blake's strike on 19 minutes.

Last years winners could have equalised from the spot just before half time but keeper Brian Jensen saved Carrick's attempt. Burnley's last league win against Manchester United came at Turf Moor in September 1968

Owen Coyle's Premier League newcomers had a tough introduction to life back in the top tier with an opening day defeat at Stoke City - but they demonstrated that they were swift learners by matching Manchester United in all areas and providing the moments of inspiration to claim a deserved victory.
