Tottenham left-back Benoit Assou-Ekotto has pledged his future to the club by penning a new four-year deal.The 25-year-old has been a revelation since the arrival of Harry Redknapp and the Spurs boss has decided to reward the player with a bumper new deal. Assou-Ekotto has managed to keep Gareth Bale out of the side and has made the left-back position his own.

Ian Butterworth has resigned from his position as assistant manager at Norwich following the appointment of Paul Lambert.Butterworth returned to the club as part of Bryan Gunn's backroom team back in February and took charge of first-team affairs for the games against Exeter and Brentford after Gunn was sacked. However following the arrival of Lambert as the club's new boss Butterworth has now decided to resign.

Nigel Adkins has hit out at the referees decision to award Middlesbrough a controversial penalty as Scunthorpe went down 2-0.The Iron were trailing 1-0 when Michael O'Connor was adjudged to have brought down Boro's Rhys Williams in the area and referee Michael Oliver pointed straight to the spot. However, Adkins felt O'Connor took the ball and the penalty should not have been awarded."The turning point for the scoreline is the penalty, it's not a penalty," Adkins revealed. "Michael O'Connor has tracked his runner, it's a fantastic tackle and the referee has made a mistake there.

Everton boss David Moyes has slammed Man City target Joleon Lescott's attitude after dropping him from his first-team squad.The England defender trained away from his team-mates on Wednesday and it appears he has no future at Goodison Park after pushing for a move to Eastlands. Moyes said ahead of the Europa League qualifier against Czech side Sigma Olomouc: "I'm not including Joleon Lescott in the squad. His attitude in the past few days has been poor and for that reason I won't include him."I've always thought he was a good lad. But I think he has not only let himself down but his team-mates too."

Man Utd defender Jonny Evans is struggling with an ankle problem ahead of the trip to Burnley so Wes Brown could start the game.Brown missed the big kick-off on Sunday because of a pre-season thigh problem but he is on stand-by to partner stand-in skipper John O'Shea at the back. Regular central defensive partners Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand remain sidelined with calf and thigh problems respectively so United will be stretched again.Red Devils chief Sir Alex Ferguson could promote Michael Owen and Anderson into the starting line-up from the bench, while Michael Carrick is pushing for inclusion.
